The job market that we are creating is tough.
Most decent jobs require specialized skills, training, and licenses.
If you want to have a decent career lined up before you are 30, you've pretty much got to have a masters degree, specialized training, and 5 years work experience in a desired field.
Are you serious.
I'm gonna be burned out by then.
because I'm good at way more than one thing.
This society is telling us to pick one thing and specialize until we are experts.
And then when we need help or advice in other aspects, turn to other specialists.
It's doing away with the idea that people can be talented and successful at more than just one or two things.
that's BS and I don't like it.
So you want to cut hair.
Well if you want to cut at a decent salon you've got to have a 2 year cosmetology degree and a year or two experience cutting for a shop.
So we're saying that you're going to have to spend 3-4 years of your life doing some crappy junk before we give you the highly honored decent job of cutting people's hair for $15/hour.
Anyone else think this is BS.
Every profession is coming up with their own standards, regulations, and just hoops you've got to jump through.
Maybe it's preventing people from just trying something out for a couple months to see if they like it and switching to something else.
But that's what sucks.
Example
You want to be a stock trader?
Well you're gonna have to get a start in an investment company and work your way up and pass certifications and regulations before you even get to the part about trading stocks.
So trading stocks may be what you think you want to do.
So you spend four years in undergrad, two years in grad school,
Three years taking trainings and specialized tests and now you're ready to go trade stocks.
Then you find out you don't like it.
NO sweat, just switch to something else and spend another 3-4 years preparing for that field.
Granted this is a bad outlook and i'm kinda frustrated,
But this specialization of all the industries isn't the best way to go in my opinion.
